Hi! Well, your highs and lows compress naturally as you age… but taking care of your health and your ears will mitigate this. There are audio professionals in their 60’s who hear more acutely than I do.
Wear earplugs whenever doing anything like mowing the lawn, or anything else associated with high decibel levels. Always save your ears for the things you love, like music and the voice of those you adore.
Be careful where you bathe/swim, and keep your ears clean and free of infection.
Practice listening. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what a good eye doctor (usually good means holistic or “alternative”… quite sick that alternative now means competent and well informed in our culture, isn’t it?) would have you do. He or she would have you wake up every day and practice watching your fingers as you extend your right and then left arm from in as far an arc as you can make, low to high.
Well, I suggest the same would be true of your hearing. Practice hearing the most quiet sounds, things you wouldn’t have noticed before you practiced this, like a distant melody, children playing, crickets and peepers, the sound of rain. Listen. Listen even to silence, to the blood rushing in your ears.
Be grateful for your hearing, thank God, or the Universe, or whomever works for you to thank.
Enjoy!
I’m 58 and my hearing is the same as it’s always been
